About:

Three students from Valley Stream South High School were selected to receive Students Building Bridges Awards through the Jewish Community Relations Council of Long Island. Noor Dar, Jessica Ma and Maya Voytelmgum all participate in a variety of outreach initiatives that make them role models for their classmates.

Noor serves as Vice President of the Key Club and is a member of several honor societies. She has helped to coordinate blood drives, food drives, the Empty Bowls service event and seventh-grade welcome dinner, and also tutors younger peers. Jessica, an accomplished cellist, tutors another music student in preparation for the NYSSMA solo evaluation. She is Vice President of the National Honor Society and has been involved in food drives and blood drives as well. Maya contributes to many efforts through the honor societies, such as Empty Bowls, bake sales, blood drives and an Earth Day clean-up activity. She also serves the community outside of school through Youth Council projects. The three students will be publicly recognized for their efforts in building bridges across communities and creating a more civil society at Nassau County’s Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) program on April 27, at Hofstra University. They will each be recognized with a citation from an elected official and a certificate from the JCRC-LI.
